Video is going to be a huge part of the future of content - while making video feels daunting, it shouldn't be. You can make a great video using your smartphone. I have pulled together 6 key tips to make your smartphone video as professional as a high end one.
Tip #1 - Good lighting is essential. Ensure you position yourself where there is lots of natural light.
Tip #2 - Keep your camera steady using a smartphone tripod or simply some bulldog clips! See my original post for how to DIY a tripod for your smartphone.
Tip #3 - Ensure your audio quality is as high as possible - either minimise your surrounding noise by selecting a quiet, non-echoey room indoors, or if this isn't possible invest in a SmartLav+ microphone for your smartphone to get great audio quality.
Tip #4 - Frame yourself correctly, we should be able to see your head and shoulders.
Tip #5 - Avoid vertical video syndrome - position your smartphone on its side to make sure your resulting video plays back in any device.
Tip #6 - Be prepared - write out your key points in a script, rehearse a few times and then shoot. Pretend you are speaking to a friend to ensure you come across as natural as possible.
